The Vierling Restaurant and Marquette Harbor Brewery has been serving the community of Marquette for more than 30 years! With that much experience in the service industry we have seen many changes. The latest change we want to be part of is the consciousness of how many wasteful products are used in Restaurants. Styrofoam containers, plastic straws, plastic bags, plastic cups, and a lot more that is used and discarded without much thought because it has become the “norm”. We at the Vierling will be taking a number of steps over the next several months to take our part in cutting back on waste. Did you know that 500 MILLION straws are used and thrown out in the United States every single day?! Based on the national average, each person will use 65,000 straws between the ages of 5 and 65. We believe it is never to soon or too late to start doing your part! Our first step will be to no longer serve drinks with a straw unless it is requested. Through the coming months as we are able to transition from what we currently have in stock to new inventory, you will also see us get rid of our Styrofoam containers, plastic straws, plastic bar picks, plastic liter bottles, and plastic bags. We are happy to say that there are other restaurants in Marquette taking similar steps, and hopefully there are many more to come! We encourage everyone to take some of these steps in your day to day life, and hope to see some of these changes as the new “norm” in Marquette!
